Hypnosis is Valuable Tool
in Creative Design Process
Reported on Yahoo! News from LA Weekly
October 11, 2002
Not only is Marcos Lutyens a serious artist, he is also a Certified Hypnotherapist. Certified in 1998, he uses hypnosis “to trace a grammar or emergent design – a design strategy that is not informed by scholarly indoctrination, or media trends, but closely conforms to the innermost workings of the mind.”
“Skinn,” Lutyens most recent exhibit at the Materials & Applications gallery in Los Angles, represents what he calls “an investigation into consciousness,” using both clothing design and architecture as inspiration. The exhibit features not only his work, but also the work of designers and architects that he hypnotized for the purpose of creating inspired designs.
Lutyens has also worked with a group of computer programmers to develop a program using drawings from hypnotized architects. His hope is that this program will establish “a model of the collective unconscious. His innovative exhibit runs through October 20th.

Hypnosis Works for Pittsburgh Penguin’s Goaltender
Reported on Pittsburgh Post Gazette Website
October 20, 2002
After a summer of using hypnosis to help control his temper during games, Penguin goaltender Johan Hedberg has improved his game. Coming from a rough season last year [see Sept. 2002 for more information], Hedberg's statistics have gradually improved.
In a 3-3 tied game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 19, Hedberg faced 41 shots, making 38 saves, 31 of which were in the final two periods, including overtime. Last season, such a game would have resulted in broken sticks and frustration.
Now Hedberg "just wants to be loose . . . [and] have a wide-open attitude." As far as he is concerned, " We've got so many guys who can score that it's no big deal if the other team scores." How can any goaltender say that? Because he used hypnosis to control his temper and improve his goaltending, and the numbers prove it's working. His attitude shows it, " I understand the way the game is now. To be honest with you , I think it's fun. I really do."

Kentucky Supreme Court OK's Hypnotically Enhanced Testimony
Reported on The Kentucky Post website
October 19, 2002
The Kentucky Supreme court has given the go-ahead to prosecutors to use hypnotically-enhanced testimony in a rape case. The ruling upholds the conviction of Franklin Roark, Jr, who is currently serving two life terms in Boone County's prison.
The decision to admit such testimony is now back in the hands of trial judges, who are to consider the "totality of circumstances" when issues of admissibility arise regarding testimony which has been refreshed, enhanced, or induced by hypnosis.
In Roark's case, the victim was only able to accurately describe her assailant after hypnosis. Defense attorneys take issue with such testimony on the assumption that false beliefs may influence a person in hypnosis.
Twenty-six states, including California, New York and Florida currently prohibit use of such testimony, while six, including New Jersey, allow it if certain standards are met during the use of hypnosis. Four states, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, and Wyoming, leave it up to the jury to decide whether or not to consider hypnotically-enhanced testimony.
