Our NGH Hypnotherapy Certification Graduates Are A Diverse Group

Click on graphic to enlarge. Soon these new graduates will be placed in our Hypnotherapist Directory
|
This was a class made up from many backgrounds, ambitions and addresses! This class had students from as far away as Wyoming and Brazil.
The group was also diverse because of their aspirations. Most of the class intended to apply what they learned to help others using hypnosis as therapy (5-PATH® and 7th Path™). At least one graduate is planning on specializing in the use of hypnosis to aid mothers-to-be in the birthing process. This specialty is called HypnoBirthing™. Another is a stage hypnotist, who joined our class in order to strengthen his hypnosis skills and credentials (Master Hypnotist).

Hypnosis For Children
Reported On CBS News Web Site
March 30, 2002
According to Robert Shacter, clinical psychologist at New York's Mount Sinai School of Medicine, children are good subjects for hypnosis. Shacter believes results improve for children age 5 or older.
The goal of hypnosis is to calm the client by helping them access a happy place through imagination. Hypnosis is used to alleviate various conditions and childhood problems, like the pain of cancer treatments, anxiety, bed-wetting, or asthma...The children are participants in the therapy process and can learn to hypnotize themselves. The results are often phenomenal and do not pose the risks of medication.

Hypnosis For Performance Enhancement
Reported On Yahoo! News Web Site
March 05, 2002
Certified Master Hypnotist, Ernest Solivan, founder of Performance Consultants International, developed Hemispheric Kinesiology, a simple method for improving sports performance. This program combines theories of hypnosis with "muscle-testing" techniques.
Solivan's method is a systematic approach to find and remove mental barriers to success. A "Sports Performance Trigger" is used to reach problems in the subconscious by utilizing both right-brain (movement and imagery) and left-brain (language and numbers) hemispheres. Stress in the subconscious mind forms a "Synthesizing Event." This occurs when an emotion becomes attached to previous subconscious information, which then weakens performance by eliminating left or right brain (or both) activity.
Hemispheric Kinesiology works holistically in the brain to stimulate maximum ports performance by revealing performance problems (Synthesizing Events) and resolving them in the subconscious. According to Solivan, "training the mind for success" is the answer for improved sports performance.

Canadian dental student at the University of Montreal, Quoc Viet Huynh Bao, conducted a study of 26 men and women (20-30 years old) to determine how emotions affected pain perception.
The study required participants to place one hand in hot water for one minute. Hypnotic suggestion was used to induce a specific emotion in each subject: "Relaxation, depression, anger, fear, anticipation of relief and satisfaction." The subjects then rated the extent of pain and how unpleasant it felt to them.
Huynh Bao's research contradicted previous studies which found negative emotions (such as fear or anger) reduced perception of pain. Huynh Bao reported "negative emotion states make pain feel worse...the stronger emotions...the more [their] emotions influenced pain perception." Positive emotions were found to reduce pain as well, but the results were not significant. The implication is clear for dentists: It is advisable to induce a "neutral" state of mind by allowing time to relax or by use of humor, etc. before treatment begins.

Hypnosis to Stimulate Conception
Reported On The Times Newspapers (TimesOnLine.com) Web Site
March 05, 2002
Alternative methods to increase fertility are becoming available to those who have not had success with conventional treatments (IVF). Dr. Elizabeth Muir, clinical Psychologist, believes hypnotherapy has increased fertilization for 45% of her clients. Hypnotherapy, she believes, reveals and resolves psychological issues not addressed using other methods. "Hypnotherapy works on the premise that the conscious and subconscious minds may be at odds with each other," Muir states. "Psychosomatic infertility" can be caused by conflicting feelings or notions about pregnancy.
Opponents argue the clinical basis for the success claims of Muir is unfounded. Muir insists hypnosis removes stress and resolves issues, allowing the hypothalamus to trigger hormone releases by the Pituitary gland. Two studies are cited supporting Muir's contention that hypnosis aids conception. In 1999, John Gruzelier studied the extent of self-hypnosis on the immune system and found changes of 48% in six weeks. Dr. Beth Domar (2000) researched how stress affects infertility in a mind-body programme of relaxation and tension-reduction. A success rate of 55% was shown. Niravi Payne, a psychotherapist and supporter of mind-body fertility therapy proposes many factors (other than stress) influence fertility: Endocrine, immune and nervous systems are interconnected, affect hormonal balance in the body and conception.
Other alternative therapies for infertility are suggested. It is advised that couples with fertility problems seek medical advice if conception has not occurred after a year.

Conquer Bad Eating Habits and Slim Down
Reported On msn Web Site
March 27, 2002
Hypnosis has been used as a complementary treatment by doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists since the 1950s. The Center for Advancement of Health claims hypnosis has successfully been used for treating pain and anxiety. Now, hypnosis is being used more broadly for treating a number of conditions, including habitual overeating in weight loss programs.
David Patterson, Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington, found that hypnosis can be "extremely effective" when used with a weight-loss program teaching "proper eating habits and exercise." Patterson also advises hypnosis "cannot be effective as a sole treatment," and long-term weight-loss requires lifestyle changes. Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of hypnosis.
Using hypnotism to lose weight requires conscious commitment and a desire to change. The hypnotist basically creates an environment conducive to "healthy" behavior by using the power of hypnotic suggestion. Hypnotic suggestion works best through a visualization of being successful or aversion methods. Negative habits can be significantly altered because hypnosis bypasses conscious resistance and implants desired behavior in the subconscious mind. It is stressed that success really is dependent on a "desire to learn healthy behavior." Dr. Arreed Barabasz, Professor at Washington State University and author on clinical hypnosis, states "desire to change" is not enough. Approximately 5% of the population are not able to be hypnotized and 5-7% can easily be hypnotized, with a majority somewhere in the middle. Lighten Up hypnosis and weight loss program's Katie Evans claims "resistance to change" is the No. 1 reason for lack of success using hypnosis in weight loss.
