Hypnosis is described as an "altered state of consciousness and heightened responsiveness to suggestion." It is used in psychiatry, education and for medical purposes, such as pain management. It is also used to treat certain physical maladies and behavioral problems, such as smoking, overeating, and insomnia.
This is an informational article on hypnosis, including introduction, characteristics and medical uses. Hypnosis is known to have success through focusing attention in certain areas to eliminate difficulties and resolve internal fears, anxiety or ambivalence. Researchers have found the effects of hypnosis to be more profound than placebos.

Anne E. Shuman, BA, CH, came to the Banyan Hypnosis Center For Training & Services, Inc., in February, 2002, having previously maintained a private hypnotherapy practice in Reading, PA and Wilmington, DE. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religious studies from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. Anne is also certified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Education. She has practiced as a Certified Hypnotherapist for five years, and has seen hundreds of clients – over 100 of which were in her first 5 months with us at the Banyan Hypnosis Center.

The Eight Word Hypnotic Induction

The first time I ever saw an instant induction performed, I was watching a stage hypnotist on television. I simply didn’t believe it. I thought the woman who went instantly limp and presumably hypnotized was just playing along or worse, a shill.
Then next time I saw an instant induction performed was when Gerald F. Kein demonstrated one to our class while I was going through his NGH Certification course. Then I became a believer.
