Channel 4 News has approached us, wanting to produce a segment on how hypnosis can help with weight loss.  They say that they want to tape both the sessions and the results.

Calvin Banyan, MA, Board Certified Hypnotherapist and Certified Hypnotherapy Instructor has agreed to conduct the sessions and answer questions about the process.  Mr. Banyan has himself used self-hypnosis to lose 60 pounds.

The actual taping could begin on March 15th, but the date of broadcast has not been set.  When it is known it will be announced on this page.

"Hypnosis employed to find killer" reads a recent publication of the Minneapolis/St. Paul newspaper.  After a shooting in a suburb the police turn to a forensic hypnotist to find out more about the details of a shooting.

After the trail ran cold the police were able to get additional information from witnesses who were hypnotized by psychologist William Wester who works with sketch artist John Kilnapp.  Their work together with the witnesses produced a useful sketch of the suspect.

Wester is an accomplished forensic hypnotist who has trained at the FBI Academy and worked with other local, state and federal agencies.  He says that he has worked on over 150 cases in the last 10 years.  He said that in almost every case additional information was taken from the sessions that the police did not previously have.

"Seeing Is Believing" states the article about how hypnosis can actually cause people to see what is suggested to them.  This was discovered, states the article, when volunteers had their brains scanned while they were in hypnosis.  The researchers were able to measure brain activity that indicated that the brain was actually "seeing" what was being suggested.

According to Dr. David Spiegel, at Stanford University in California, critics of hypnosis have challenged its validity saying that hypnosis is "just an exaggerated form of social compliance.  In other words people were just telling you want you wanted to hear, but now we know they are actually perceiving things differently"

The article also goes on to discuss how this information gives credence to the idea that hypnosis can be used for treating pain or phobias.
