Cal before applying Self-Hypnosis

I didn't feel good about myself at 290 pounds.

If you have come to this page you are probably considering using our 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® System for weight loss. I want to encourage you to order the 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® tapes or take the class and learn this system. It can make a great difference in your life if you are overweight.

I want to encourage you to lose the weight. It does not matter how many things you have tried. It does not matter how much weight you have to lose, make the commitment and do it. Make losing weight your #1, most important goal for this year, and your maintaining your weight your #1 goal for the rest of your life.

Why is it so important that you lose weight? Ask yourself, "What is the one thing that I can do to make everything in my life better?" The resounding answer is "Lose the weight!"

I know, I've lost the weight and kept it off, and you can too! Get the 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® system and put it to work for you!

Lose the weight and almost everything in your life will get better. Here are some examples:

  • You will have more confidence in your appearance
  • You will feel better physically and be able to do more with your life
  • Your relationships will improve
  • You will be more optimistic and get depressed less often
  • Your family life will improve
  • Your sex life will improve
  • Your work life will improve
  • People will generally respond better to you
  • Your doctor will be impressed and you will experience less pain in your body
  • You will live longer and have a higher quality life overall!

Let's talk about why people have so much difficulty losing weight. Here are some of the most important reasons.

  • Family training (i.e., eating until you are full, or feeling guilty for leaving food on the plate)
  • Constant barrage of commercials about food
  • Habitual eating, also known as conditioned responses
  • Coping with emotions by distracting yourself with food (i.e., bored, tired, lonely, depressed, etc.)
  • Emotional attachment to foods (irrational meanings assigned to food)
  • Lack of education about what you should be eating (not knowing how much to eat or what to eat to be healthy)
  • Lack of activity (exercise)
  • Lacking flexibility in your approach

Let me take each one of these and discuss how self-hypnosis can or cannot help.

Family Training

From time immemorial families have been suggesting (and that is a nice way to put it) that their children "clean" their plates or eat until they are full. If you are a growing child, this kind of eating might be the right thing to do. But, when these ideas or habits regarding eating continues into adult life, most people will become overweight. 7th-Path Self-hypnosis® is a great way to change this kind of childhood programming.

Constant Barrage of Commercials About Food

All through your life there has been another source of eating suggestions, commercials! These commercials are specifically designed to get you to want to eat and to get you to buy their products. These advertisers use every kind of tool at their disposal, such as identifying their product with some role model, or the ability to fulfill some need, like being sexy or having fun. 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® is a great antidote to this kind of ongoing programming that is so prevalent in our society.

Habitual Eating, Also Known As Conditioned Responses

This is something that psychologists really understand so I'm surprised that this is not talked about more often, and that is Classical Conditioning. It all started a long time ago when a Russian physician studying digestion noticed that his subjects (dogs) would become conditioned to salivate before they were fed. Eventually he came to understand that the act of salivation was triggered by other things that were associated with receiving the food. A great deal of research when into this and it was discovered that animals, including humans, can be easily conditioned to lights, bells, and just about anything else. For example, if you repeatedly go home from work, sit in a favorite chair, turn on the television and have a snack or eat dinner there, you will become conditioned to eating there. This conditioning is especially noticeable when you decide to change your eating habits, like not snack so much. In this case a couple of things can happen. First, when you decide not to snack, your body will still expect the snack, and even though you are not physically hungry, you can get a case of pseudo-hunger, and you can think that you are hungry or even feel hungry even if you just ate 20 minutes ago! Secondly, at the very least you will constantly think about food, because it is so associated with sitting there and watching television (or whatever, like sitting at the computer, etc.). 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® can work two ways here. First it can help to motivate you to change the pattern. And, secondly it can reduce or eliminate the unconscious conditioning.

Coping With Emotions By Distracting Yourself With Food

Okay, this is a biggie. I see this so often that I am convinced that it is one of the major sources of addiction in our society, no matter what kind of substance or behavior we are working with (i.e., smoking, drinking, nail biting, hair pulling, working too much, shopping too much, almost anything too much!).

We need to be re-educated about feelings and emotions. From our childhood we have been made to feel bad about feeling bad! It is time to look at this sixth sense that we call feelings and emotions in a more practical and useful way. All feelings are good. They are there to help and guide you. But instead, we have learned to bury them under a mound of food (or other substances and behaviors). When we do this consistently, over time, we become fat!

Some of our feelings come from the past (i.e., guilt and anger). Some come from what is going on right now in our lives (i.e., frustration and stress). And, some feelings come from our own expectations with regard to the future (fear, worry and depression). 7th Path Self-hypnosis works with all of these feelings, as well as giving you a way to suggest to yourself more beneficial behaviors than eating to cope with these feelings.

Emotional Attachment To Foods

Sometimes we will begin to think of food as more than what it really is, fuel. Food is fuel. But in our lives, food can come to symbolize many different things. For example:

  • Food is love
  • Food is comfort(ing)
  • Food is my friend
  • Food is a reward, etc

Food is fuel, period. If food carries more meaning than that for you and you are overweight, you need to look at these beliefs and begin to change them. 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® is a great way to change both how you think and feel about food (or any substance or behavior).

Lack of Education About What You Should Be Eating

Unfortunately, this is where most weight loss systems both begin and end. They think that you are overweight because you don't know what or how much to eat. This is why diets fail. There is so much more to the puzzle, as I am outlining here.

Another problem with the "knowing what to eat is the key" approach is that not everyone benefits from the same exact diet.

Here is how 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® can help you. First, we figure that you have already been on a diet in the past and can see that it is possible to lose weight. The problem was either staying with the diet or keeping the weight off once you got it off. 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® can be used to keep you on any diet that works for you. Or keep you motivated while you find one that will work for you.

Next interesting thing is that if you do everything else on this page and don't diet, you may lose all the weight you want to lose anyway. That is right. If you eliminate unconscious conditioned responses that cause you to think about food all the time or feel hungry all the time, you will eat less and lose weight. If you eliminate eating in response to feelings (sadness, boredom, stress, tiredness, anger, loneliness, frustration and depression) you will lose weight, have a lot less struggle and feel a lot more in control of your life!

Become More Active (Exercise)

Generally speaking, most of us need to move more. Our bodies have been designed to be used much more than most modern people use them. Now most of the things that we do in our lives can be accomplished with a push of a button (cooking, entertainment, opening the garage door, visiting with our friends on the telephone)! Only one or two generations back in time, it was very different!

We now have the luxury of deciding how we will use and exercise our bodies, rather than getting all the exercise we need by just doing the things needed to survive (i.e., building fires, gathering or killing food, etc.).

Unfortunately, nature has programmed us to conserve energy! This has served our ancestors well (because they did not know where their next meal was coming from, but now we have refrigerators and microwave ovens, etc.) We need to overcome this innate programming and motivate ourselves to become more active.

7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis® is a great way to motivate yourself, and keep yourself motivated, while you find ways to remain active all year round for a lifetime of health.

Lacking Flexibility In Your Approach

This is one of the great weaknesses of almost every weight loss plan I have ever read about, hear about or tried. They are restrictive. They may work for you, or only work for a while. What you need is a way to take back control of what you think, feel and do, that goes beyond some kind of inflexible diet or plan.

Your body is a teacher! It is one of life's greatest instructors. As you learn to listen to it, and how it responds to both what you eat and how you feel, you will learn how to take care of it in a way that is perfect for you.

Using 7th-PATH Self-Hypnosis®, you remain completely flexible in your approach and can integrate what you learn about yourself into the process. No self-hypnosis tape can do that!
